Good for Joyce Manor! If a band doesn't want you to act like an idiot at their show, you should refrain from acting like one or leave.

i often don't want to be stage dived on. so therefore i don't stand in front when that is a possibility. seems pretty simple

I just finally listened to this band. I mean, I guess I get where stage diver is coming from, because when I was young and an asshole I would ruin everyone else's experience doing bullshit like this. But now I'm an adult, and I have no idea what the fuck I was thinking, or, after listening to this band, what the fuck this guy was thinking.

They have a point, but they went about it in a really shitty way. Stopping your song, telling the guy to come up back on stage and putting your hands on him when he doesn't hear you, then asking him what his weight, etc. was in front of an entire room of people who think he is a dick because the band on stage told them to think so is fucking stupid. I don't know why it bothers me so much, maybe because I've struggled with my weight all my life, but I think what that band did was mean-spirited.
It's not like the guy was even that big. I'm sure there were people he dove on to who did not think he was being a dick by getting into the band that they were all there to see. I broke my fucking collar bone stagediving at the last Snowing show. People were stage diving left and right. Believe it or not, as the singer of JM put it, 'little girls' like to fucking stage dive too.
I didn't even realize that the videos in OP were from a SECOND incident where this shit happened. Fuck this band. Who do they think they are/what gives them the authority to tour to fight a kid in his own city over stage diving? They're taking a lot of liberties with people they do not know and have a total air of superiority during the whole thing.
TL;DR - my message to Joyce Manor is to stop playing shows if you think you are so much fucking better than the kids who come out and support you.

"Hey Mr. fucking Patriotic-Straight-Edge-Piece-of-Shit.... hey! Oh, Mr. Patriot! Fucking macho piece of shit! Get the fuck out of here. that's fucking bullshit. You know what dude............this is for people who are intelligent and don't happen to be into hardcore, this isn't a hardcore show. I don't give a fuck about your bro-y ass, entitled, spoiled ass. Fuck you. My fucking band is asking you to behave appropriately. Get the fuck outta here. MY band - don't like my band anymore! Don't be at our show anymore. Don't fucking like our band anymore. Don't come to our shows."
Such quick wit! What an "intelligent"ly phrased scolding!
dude is a hypocrite. he is going out of his way to appear more tough than he actually is. the shakiness in his voice every time he says 'fuck' gives off the impression that he thinks it makes him sound more mature and cool, almost as if he were a pre-schooler who had just discovered the word's existence. bands like this should not be touring, at least not DIY shows at venues that don't require security.
EDIT: Oh yeah, he is also a hypocrite because he makes a point of saying that the show is for intelligent people while struggling(and failing) not to sound like a terrified blockhead and grasping for insults that he is just too stupid to come up with.

So you've never lost a grasp on the English language in the heat of the moment? Never gotten so aggravated you can't form a sentence? I know I have. I sound like a fucking stooge when I get angry and start spouting off.
And "Who do they think they are/what gives them the authority to tour to fight a kid in his own city over stage diving?" can be responded to with another question, "who did this hardcore kid think he was to potentially (and then actually) ruin an experience for a bunch of kids in his own city?"
Like I said, I used to act like this, and I've reflected on it, and I was an asshole, and was a dick to that room full of kids trying to see, say, The Juliana Theory at Wayne Firehouse. I didn't even like that band, but if I did, it would have been nice if I realized that there's a time and a place for everything, and my acting like a dip shit made it harder for people who did appreciate this band to enjoy themselves. And believe it or not, that's a regret that floats around in the back of my head, knowing I likely ruined somebody else's good time, by more or less being a bully.
It must be something about a certain type of straight edge mentality (I SAID CERTAIN TYPE). Maybe guy should smoke some weed and drop off the face of the earth, it works for some people.

if you go to black n blue bowl and stand in the middle of the room and are knocked out when a bunch of dudes my size are doing karate moves in the pit... i don't feel bad if you go see hoax and stand up front and jesse punches you in the face... i don't feel bad. if you get stage dived on at this is hardcore... i don't feel bad. if you're some 120 pound girl and you get mushed up standing up front during a joyce manor show because some guy that's usually posting on instagram about how he's been lookng for a turnstile longsleeve in XL didn't realize where he was.. i kinda feel bad for you.
i have never performed a stage dive because i'm a big dude and would feel bad about it, but i would especially never stage dive during joyce manor mostly because if i were ever at a joyce manor show i'd be in the back of the room texting for their entire set.

The kid doing the stage diving in these videos was intentionally being a dick according to social media updates he made before the show. Something along the lines of "I'll give these bitches a constant headache with my stagedives", referring to their most popular song. In this case, I believe he deserved the insults for being an asshole. However, if the situation changed, where the kid was just super pumped to be at a Joyce Manor show and wanted to stage dive, the band totally failed at handling the situation.

Reading over my post from the other night, I realize that I set a very passionate tone for the post. I don't really care that much about this issue, but I also don't tout my intelligence as a divisive factor when I'm angry and at a loss for words. And again, I didn't realize that this was NOT in referral to the first incident. But the reason I mentioned that it was that kid's own city was because at that point, it's safe to assume that he knows some of the people in the room and that they know who he is/what he's all about. You can't make the same assumption for Joyce Manor because they're only stopping there for a single night on tour.
This kid reminds me of lil chris.

if there's multiple times where the singer stagedives at their own show, it's pretty fucking hypocritical. If the guy stagediving was actually stoked to be at their show and not some asshole patriotic straight edge kid, then it's pretty fucked up for him to be humiliated in front of a crowd that's already cheering for said hypocrite.

if you have to stop your set to tell people to stop stagediving, then your band are faggots, and the person stagediving is also a faggot because they're stagediving to your band.

I would personally love to know the reason that you felt the need to call me out and/or make an example of me. Now that i've been dragged into this thread, here is my two cents on the issue. Jump off shit if you want to. If a band doesn't want you to do things like mosh or dive while they play, they have a right to say so and hopefully people who enjoy said band will oblige, but when a band goes out of their way to be overly rude and alienate a person for something that they (at the time) didn't discourage and personally did themselves than they can suck every dick in the universe.
