we all live in ny and nj and are surrounded with great pizza all the time. even the local "bad" pizza places (ie all the ones up and down easton av.) are probably 10x better then when you get in the rest of the country and if we're being honest here totally eatable.
let's instead talk about all the legitimately bad pizza we've bad while traveling.
1. Scranton, PA- couldn't tell you the name of the place but I was given a slice of pizza while in Scranton PA (couldn't tell you the name of the spot since I didn't pay) and it was by far the worst tasting non-frozen pizza I've ever had. imagine a large stale piece of pita bread with straight up canned sauce and not enough cheese. oh and also he underside was way too floury. I was covered in flour after two pieces.
2. Holyoke, MA- the party pizza from TNT pizza. while on thorn/pharaoh weekend tour in March of 2013 we played a house show in Holyoke and had an extremely bizarre night of sleep for multiple reasons, first of which was the pizza. the show ended at like 11 but people just kept hanging around being weird until like 3 (these two girls were actually there not shutting the fuck up until like 6). we wanted food right as the show ended but found out that the only places open at 11pm in Holyoke were a Denny's two towns over and TNT Pizza which the locals said was pretty bad but we were starving (when visiting New Brunswick the guy that booked our show got pizza from chicken xxpress and said it was great soooo). we ordered two "party pizzas" since there were 8 of us on that tour. a party pizza by the way is a big flat square about 3' wide by 3'' long. they guy came to the door with the boxes and they literally didn't fit through the frame without him tilting then so the dimensions might have been even more crazy than that. basically it was a giant floppy piece or shit covered in chef boyardee sauce and pretty bad cheese. the only way we choked it down was to drench it in sriracha and even then we gave most of it away and still had leftovers which no one touched in the morning. I had a picture of it on an old phone but lost it. it was truly a sight to be seen though.
share your awful pizza stories.

I lived in Providence, RI for two years while my girlfriend attended grad school at RISD, and I think all but 1.5 of my pizza experiences there were horrible HORRIBLE experiences, but the one place I will never forgive/forget was the super popular hip Nice Slice (they have a vegan pizza called the Earth Crisis). Whole wheat crust (almost always a disgusting decision), and they had one specialty pizza that was topped with fucking dried cranberries, almonds and feta or goat cheese or some bullshit.
Almost everywhere up there loves fucking around with wackadoodle shitty toppings on the pizza. A buncha ding-dongs.

I'm trying to remember what are some truly awful experiences I've had with pizza but I can't really remember. I've had two bad pizza experiences recently, one was because of a topping mistake (I ordered something that wasn't supposed to have olives, and it had olives and even if you pick that shit off, IT'LL STICK FOREVER) and the other was the Ta-Ta's vegan Mac and Cheese pizza. Weak Mac and Cheese that clashed with their inexplicable choice to put tomato sauce on a Mac and Cheese pizza.

Nice Slice is garbage and if you're smart you'll just go grab a slice at Antonio's across the street anyways, since it tastes more like pizza.
Basically, living in Providence is like living in a city where 85% of the pizza places are that place Frank's Pizza that is everywhere. UGH.

I didn't eat this cuz it wasn't vegan (among other reasons) but when I was at Oneonta Punk, I witnessed a local specialty that was a fully baked pizza with cold unmelted cheese sprinkled on it. Needless to say, I was disgusted and perturbed.

UGH. is antonio's the one with the burrito spot connected to it? (if so it wasn't bad !) also my friends in pvd told me about a "pizza cone" place which unfortunately shut down before it got there, seems like something i'd like to try

Guy named Gabe, cold cheese pizza is actually pretty great. The cold cheese warms up just a little bit, giving you the tooth feel (y'know, the "SQUEAK!") of eating cheese curd, PLUS, you end up with two different cheese flavors, more or less, since the heat of cooking obviously changes the way it tastes.
And yeah, Antonio's is the spot with the burrito spot inside of it. The pizza was good (I was usually pretty tuned up) as long as you didn't go getting some wacky ass toppings like CHICKEN FAJITA or some bullshit for college student idiots. And there were a few times my girlfriend wanted Nice Slice, and as long as it had just pepperoni on half of it, I could deal.

Interesting. I don't think that'd translate well with vegan cheese so I don't think I'll ever try it. But interesting nonetheless.

There was a pizza spot in South Philly by the old venue, Disgraceland, that literally tasted like round Ellio's but worse. Worst pizza I ever had was in Berlin Germany, it was soggy and had corn on it. Geographically way closer to Italy than I have ever been, and yet so terrible. As far as the pizza cone place, one opened in Edison off rt. 1 konousa.com It's not great...

You are digsuting and perturbing, Gabe. and last of all, they put tomato on it because it's a pizza you fucking mutant!!!! Remind me never to take pizza advice from GabeXVX ever again!!

Starved for pizza a man will take what he can get. I have since had vegan pizza that made Nice Slice pale in comparison. No one is denying tomato sauce goes on a pizza but on a Mac and Cheese pizza that shit didn't taste right. Chill.

Other than the obvious, Blackbird, this is the best vegan pizza I've ever had that wasn't homemade. dalegna.com/Used to get from this place all the time when I was in CT. They are not a vegan place but have a small menu of vegan cheese and mock meat toppings. Mushroom and vegan sausage pie was my shit. Wood fired with a thin crust that was usually seasoned with garlic so every bite was fucking delicious. If you're ever in Connecticut, I highly recommend it.

Being starved for pizza and taking what you can get should never mean ordering two pizzas.

Yeah well take grandpa for a ride up to Nice Slice. And then when you realize how upset the old man is, you take him across town to NY System and cram a few hot wieners down his throat and he will say, "hey, it's OK."
