the concept of this blew my mind when i heard about it, it will realistically happen in a house that has never had a show in it with a bunch of bands you've never heard of full of a bunch of people that dont really like punk. whatever, i applied all 3 of my solo projects

This just in via vlv...
It's happening at house filled with noise dorks. Said noise dorks have been promised $500 and a slot during the show to perform their noise. Also, Red Bull is going to cover any noise violation expenses.
If Red Bull doesn't pick a local band that's going to fuck with the show, then this should be pre-emptively shut down with a call to the fire department. There's no way these noise dweebs ought to profit in anyway off what should just be a hilarious opportunity to fuck with Red Bull and Thursday.

If a local band plays this more than likely Red Bull will have their information posted all over the internet. That will lead to cops and whoever else no one wants coming around to shows to easier access to the band's information and show schedule. I don't know if having a local band actually play this is the best idea. Let the nerds have this one. BUT if some people put together a fake band to do this to fuck with it from the inside...maybe a better idea.
I'm also into the idea of calling a fire department and fucking with this from the outside.

DIY or ...$500 I guess.
WHEN this is shut down, does Red Bull realize a court date IS mandatory? Are these kids getting anything in writing? They're going to get fucked.
But ruining their fun would be lame. Narc-ing it out reeks of jealousy. They aren't a part of any real scene, they aren't hurting us, who gives a shit what misguided actions they engage in?

It would be incredible if Red Bull actually put to writing their intent to break New Brunswick noise and occupancy codes.

This. indeed and while i know noise isn't a popular kind of music on this board, i first started going to those shows in 2001/2002, and while its a scene that has very little interaction with the HC scene (a shame too because i think that both crowds could appreciate each others music more), its definitely a very 'real' scene, and has been for some time. i havent gone to any noise shows in a long time so i certainly can't vouch for the people involved with this red bull thing (which based on the VLV thread makes them sound like assholes, plus this whole contest is fucking retarded to begin with), but narcing them out to the cops and getting their show shutdown is not cool by any means.

Oh please, no one is fucking with the show because noise kids are hosting it, as you're suggesting. Also, anyone that's been going to shows in New Brunswick for more than four years (the majority of this board) is painfully aware of the NB noise scene. Everyone has a creepy 35 Plum story to tell.
If this goes down without a hitch a hilarious opportunity will have been squandered. I'm just glad Jay, CJ, and a few others see the potential here.

For the record, I never spoke out on fucking with this. I think you and anyone else who knows me knows that I'll never shy away from fucking with people.
But getting on some high horse, complaining about how this sucks or could affect anyone here in any way is just whining. It would be funny to fuck with this (maybe start a band called the "Bulls" and sing only songs about how great Red Bull is), but I'm going to take the I don't give a shit road on this one.

Ehh, I'm sympathetic with complaints from Jeff and Brendan. Although obviously less so considering I no longer have a horse in this race.
To play devil's advocate for a minute; just imagine if a couple hundred people that have never been to a basement show in their life show up for this. It isn't difficult to further imagine one of these kids doing something very, very stupid. A few hundred kids and a serious injury would send Rutgers and the fire and police departments into a frenzy.
Someone walk around this show with a donation jar and make a few hundred bucks at this show.

Someone walk around this show with a donation jar and make a few hundred bucks at this show. Okay, I totally get behind this. Regarding Jeff's concerns, I'm very much over worrying about New Brunswick taking a stand against basement shows. Run the shows early enough and there shouldn't be problems. Every show that has been shut down this year is cus kids are idiots (hanging out in front, parking illegally near the house, going late, having shows on Dix Street that are loud...).

ps. for whatever it's worth, I'd like to point out the odd "social cred" that seems to be coming along with playing NB these days, mainly in the "indie" scene. I have a friend I'm booking a small show for in early-December, and when she called to ask if I could set something up, her request was, "Could you get us a show at Meat Town?" Now, I've certainly called up friends for tour and asked if they had connections at certain venues in other cities, but I never had felt it was something that really existed in NB until recently. Don't really think it's bad, or good...just kinda icky.

People hear good things about venues/houses and want to play there. It's always been that way.

Hey dhoop, is it Jaci who referenced me? Is she the girl that set this up? A girl who did an independent study in my office last year was the girl who brought this up to me.
